Users in India are having trouble using GPay, Paytm, and other UPI apps to make payments

Nationwide, UPI services are unavailable. Paying is not possible for users.

Payment failures have been reported on Google Pay, Paytm, and other banking apps, and users throughout India are experiencing disruptions in Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions. Outage reports increased in the evening, impacting fund transfers, transactions, and login access, according to Downdetector.

Services Affected
Users of Google Pay most frequently reported problems with payments (72%), website access (14%), and app-related issues (14%). Paytm also experienced disruptions; 86% of complaints were about payments, whereas 9% and 6%, respectively, were about login and purchase features.

The State Bank of India (SBI) experienced issues with fund transfers (47%), mobile banking (37%), and online banking (16%) as a result of the outage, which also affected banking services. 84% of the complaints against UPI were related to unsuccessful payments, which hurt the company as a whole.

Downdetector graphs indicate a sharp increase in complaints around 7 PM, suggesting that the problems began in the late afternoon. Social media users also complained about delayed fund transfers and unsuccessful transactions. Regarding the reason for the interruption, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which oversees UPI, has not yet released a statement.

The cause of the outage

As previously stated, UPI has not yet released an official statement explaining the cause of the nationwide outage of UPI services. But when Moneycontrol attempted to make the payment, the funds were first taken out of the account. The message “UPI down in India: Users facing issues with payments via GPay, Paytm and other UPI apps” was displayed when the money was credited back to the account.
