In order to help put an end to the bloodiest conflict in Europe since World War II, US President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday to discuss a ceasefire agreement for Ukraine. Trump has already departed for Alaska, where the two are expected to meet shortly, according to Reuters.

Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, was not invited to the discussions. Trump, however, stated that they would arrange a second three-way summit with Zelensky if the planned negotiations proceeded smoothly.

Trump had previously declared that he would put an end to the conflict in Ukraine “within 24 hours.” On Thursday, though, he acknowledged that the task had been more difficult than he had anticipated.

The Trump-Putin meeting has raised doubts among Ukraine’s European allies, who fear that the US president may sell out Ukraine by acknowledging Russian control over a fifth of the country.

However, Trump stated, “I’m not here to negotiate for Ukraine, I’m here to get them to a table,” prior to boarding Air Force One on Friday.

Where will Putin and Trump meet this Friday?

The two presidents would meet in the largest city in Alaska at an air force base from the Cold War.

According to reports, Russian special envoy Kirill Dmitriev stated that the two would talk about a wide range of bilateral issues in addition to the ceasefire.

The war has been raging for more than three and a half years, and Trump is pushing for a truce. Putin may view the meeting as a victory and proof that Western efforts to isolate Russia over the years have not been as effective as they would have hoped.

At what time would Putin and Trump meet?

On August 15, the two are expected to meet at approximately 11 AM (Alaska time). It will begin on August 16 at around 12:30 AM Indian time. First, Trump will board Putin’s aircraft to meet him.
