According to police on Friday, a college student in Kolkata was allegedly raped by her two seniors and a former student of the institution. On Thursday evening, the three defendants were taken into custody.

Police say that Pramit Mukhopadhyay, Zaib Ahmed, and Manojit Mishra have been arrested on suspicion of raping a law college student in Kolkata on June 25.

The police were cited by news agency PTI as saying, “The accused named in the FIR will be produced before ACJM Alipore, South 24 Parganas with a prayer to remand them to police custody for the purpose of proper investigation into the case.”

The victim claims that when the woman went to the college on the evening of June 25, the incident occurred. According to the police, she was gang-raped after the three defendants led her to a room within the school.

“The three accused were detained on Thursday after the student filed a complaint with the Kasba Police Station. The matter is currently in its early stages,” the officer stated.

He stated, “Medical tests of the woman are being conducted,” and that the three defendants would appear in court on Friday.

According to the Hindustan Times, Mishra is the main suspect and is accused of raping the woman while the other two accused assisted and stood watch.

The guard room at the college where the alleged incident is said to have occurred between 7:30 and 8:50 p.m. on June 25 was sealed by police.

The woman claims that Mishra overpowered her and led her to the guardroom, where he sexually assaulted her.

All three of the accused had their cell phones confiscated by the police.

Less than a year had passed since the rape and murder of a post-graduate medical student at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital when the incident was reported.

Sanjay Roy, a 33-year-old Kolkata Police civic volunteer, was found guilty in the case and given a life sentence.
