India’s Got Latent Row: Fadnavis demands action as Mumbai police visit the set of the show

Ranveer Allahbadia, comedian Samay Raina, influencer Apoorva Makhija, and the producers of the show “India’s Got Latent” were all the targets of a formal complaint.

Following a string of divisive comments on an episode of the YouTube series India’s Got Latent, a Mumbai Police team arrived at the Khar area studio on Monday. YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, who was a guest on the show, made comments that sparked the controversy. Following the filing of a formal complaint against Allahbadia, comedian Samay Raina, social media influencer Apoorva Makhija, and the show’s organizers, the Mumbai Police team paid a visit. The complaint filed with the Maharashtra Women’s Commission and the Mumbai Commissioner claims that the show used derogatory language. Strict legal action against the accused has been demanded by the complainant.

It is completely wrong for someone to break the rules: Devendra Fadnavis

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis of Maharashtra responded to the controversy by stating, “I have learned about it. I still haven’t seen it. Some things have been presented and stated incorrectly.

“Everyone has the right to free speech, but when we violate someone else’s right, our freedom is over. He was quoted by media as saying, “We have established certain rules in our society; if someone breaks them, it is completely wrong and action should be taken against them.”

Rekha Sharma, a Rajya Sabha MP and former head of the National Commission for Women (NCW), also expressed her shock at the comments. “The video is very shocking and I think whether it is a female or a male, this kind of joke is never accepted by society. Joking about a mother or a woman’s body doesn’t look good, and it demonstrates how morally depraved today’s youth have become.

“I think such jokes affect others who are engaged in similar creative things. I have just forwarded that video to the NCW Chairperson to take action,” Sharma added.

Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena too condemned the remarks on the show.

Shiv Sena spokesperson Raju Wagamare warned the producers, saying,”In the state of Maharashtra, under the legacy of Shivaji Maharaj, such language will not be tolerated. They should stop all this immediately; otherwise, we will take action in our own style.”
