In light of growing tensions with Volodymyr Zelensky over war with Russia, Donald Trump suspends US military assistance to Ukraine.

The military aid given to Ukraine during the ongoing conflict has been impacted by President Donald Trump’s decision to suspend it. Following last Friday’s dramatic altercation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office, the United States took this action.

US President Donald Trump has put a halt to all military assistance to Ukraine, which will have an effect on the ongoing conflict in Kyiv.

“The President has made it apparent that peace is his top priority. Our partners must share our commitment to that objective. To make sure our assistance is helping find a solution, we are stopping and evaluating it,” a White House official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told AFP.

The battle between Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump

Following last Friday’s dramatic altercation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office, Donald Trump took this action.

Trump and Zelensky met and had a contentious discussion. The Ukrainian president’s position on diplomacy with Russia has drawn criticism from both US President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance. Zelensky’s remaining White House visit was canceled due to this dispute, which also raised questions about whether the US would continue to support Ukraine.

Trump and Zelensky’s mineral agreement

The terms of an anticipated agreement that would give the US access to Ukraine’s rare earth minerals were another point of contention between the two. Zelensky urged Trump to include US assurances or security guarantees in the agreement.

Before the press conference, the Trump administration gave the Ukrainian president minerals in exchange for a security agreement, but “the deal included no security guarantees to protect Ukraine from another Russian invasion,” according to Fox News, which cited people with knowledge of the situation. Trump, meanwhile, said the agreement was crucial to repaying more than $180 billion in U.S. aid that Kyiv has received since the start of the conflict.

Zelensky was even charged by Trump with “gambling with World War Three.”

I don’t think it’s going to be pretty,” Trump stated. “You don’t have the cards right now. You’re either going to make a deal or we’re out, and if we’re out, you’ll fight it out.”

“With millions of people, you’re gambling… With World War Three, you’re taking a chance,” Trump remarked.

Zelensky cautioned that if the US did not back Ukraine, they would “feel it in the future.”

“Don’t predict our feelings for us. We’re attempting to address an issue,” Trump retorted.

Trump’s advice to Zelensky

Trump reiterated on Monday that Zelensky should be more grateful for US support, after earlier expressing anger over an AP report that quoted Zelensky as saying the war’s end was “very, very far away.”

“America will not tolerate Zelenskyy’s statement for much longer, as it is the worst that could have been made!” Trump posted on Truth Social.

But despite his problems with Kyiv, Trump said Monday that the mineral deal could still be reached.

Changes in US policy

After the Trump administration took office, the US administration adopted a softer stance toward Russia, which is viewed as a policy U-turn. Trump said Americans should “worry less” about Vladimir Putin in an attempt to deflect criticism after Ukrainian President Zelensky resigned from the White House last Friday after a public altercation.

In stark contrast to the previous Joe Biden administration, which had firmly supported Ukraine, the Trump-led US administration is perceived as becoming more critical of Ukraine while embracing a more accommodative stance toward Russia.
