Delhi Election Results: Congress Defeats Again — But This Zero Is Different, Says DPCC Chief! Here’s why.

Delhi Election Results: Despite losing all of its seats in the Delhi 2025 elections, the Congress party’s leader, Devender Yadav, says this time is different. Now that the AAP is out of power, can Congress regain its core base of voters with a slight increase in vote share?

Delhi Election Results: Last week, the results of the Delhi Election 2025 were revealed, and the Congress party received zero seats. The party that ruled the nation’s capital for 15 years has now lost three consecutive assembly elections.

However, Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav stated that the party’s score this time was different from its score in the previous election.

The rationale is that we are optimistic that we will be able to regain the support of our core constituency, which consists of Dalits, the poor, and minorities, following this election. In an interview with The Indian Express, Yadav stated, “We hope that now that the AAP is out of power, we will be able to regain the vote share of the electorate for whom we were always the first choice.”

Congress improves vote share

Despite losing seats, the Congress’s vote share slightly increased. In the 2020 assembly election, the Congress received 6.34 percent of the vote, compared to 4.3%.

For the third consecutive term, we were unable to enter the Delhi Assembly. We were able to create the impression that it is a three-way competition rather than a two-way one, but that is undoubtedly a personal loss for us. Therefore, it is true that we have made significant progress thus far,” Yadav stated.

Under Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, the Congress party ruled Delhi for 15 years, from 1998 to 2013. However, the party lost eight seats in the 2013 election and none at all in the 2015, 2020, and 2025 assembly elections.

Even worse, Congress is blamed for the loss of at least 13 seats for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), an ally of the INDIA bloc. The Bharatiiya Janata Party (BJP) benefited from the fact that the Congress candidates received more votes than the margin of victory in these seats.

With 48 seats in the 70-member assembly, the BJP emerged victorious in the 2025 Delhi elections. Thus, the AAP’s ten-year rule was overthrown by the saffron party. Although Kejriwal and his deputy, Manish Sisodia, lost, the Arvind Kejriwal-led party managed to secure 22 seats.

Key Takeaways

  • Despite the zero seats, Congress saw a marginal increase in its vote share, indicating potential for future growth.
