Security forces in Kulgam

Terrorists and security forces are currently engaged in combat in Kulgam, south Kashmir. The gunfight occurs just 24 hours after a horrific terror attack in Pahalgam claimed the lives of 26 people.

Terrorists and security forces clashed in Kulgam, south Kashmir, on Wednesday, less than twenty-four hours after the Pahalgam terror attack.

Following reports of suspicious movement, security personnel cordoned off the area and began a search.

However, according to sources cited by JKNS, security personnel were heavily fired upon during the searches, which resulted in a gunfight.

At least 26 people, primarily tourists, were killed by terrorists at the Baisaran meadows in Pahalgam on Tuesday, in one of the worst attacks on civilians in Kashmir in recent memory.

To find the attackers, the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police have begun a search in the Baisran, Pahalgam, Anantnag, general area.

One of the worst terror attacks since the repeal of Article 370 in 2019, the tragedy killed innocent tourists and rocked not only Kashmir but the entire nation.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet Comittee on Security (CCS) meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is discussing the recent security situation.

Top officials who were on the committee, such as External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, attended the meeting. The meetings are also attended by the Defense Secretary, Cabinet Secretary, and National Security Advisor.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated earlier in the day that those responsible for the cowardly terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, would face a “strong response” in the “near future” and that India cannot be “intimidated” by such terrorist acts. This was the first obvious indication of India’s potential response to the incident.

Additionally, he stated that India would not only pursue the attackers but also track down those who planned to commit the heinous act “sitting behind the scenes” on Indian soil.
